Beds FAQs

How safe are our children’s beds?

We know how important your child's safety is, which is why we thoroughly test all our children's beds to the highest British and European safety standards so you can rest easy. Our kids' beds are also made with solid wood and MDF, so we can guarantee durability for years to come. We proudly offer a Five Year Warranty with each of our beds, which ensures our high standards are maintained.

What size is a standard single bed?

A UK standard single mattress is 90cm wide and 190cm long, which is equal to 3 foot wide and 6 foot 3 inches long. Our single beds, like the Star Bright Single Bed, are made ever so slightly bigger at 96.5cm wide and 198cm long, so they can comfortably fit a standard UK single mattress, such as our Classic Mattress, All Rounder (UK Single). We also offer a selection of Euro sized beds that require a mattress 10cm longer than the UK standard. A Euro single mattress, like our Luxury Mattress, All Rounder (Euro Single) measures 90cm wide and 200cm long. We recommend checking the product description of the bed you're interested in to see if a UK or Euro single is required.

When to move to a toddler bed, then single bed?

As with many milestones in your child's life, when to move to a toddler bed from a cot varies between each child. Usually, this falls anywhere between 18 months to 3 years, so don't feel pressured to make the transition before your little one is ready. Our Nutkin Toddler & Cot Bed Mattress fits our Little Wren Cot Bed which is suitable from birth up to four years old. When your little one reaches the toddler years, the cot can be transformed into a reassuringly low toddler bed with side rails for safety. We then recommend moving your child to a single bed from age 4 and above.

What age can a child go in bunk beds?

Not only are bunk beds great space savers, they're every child's dream bed! However, what age can a child go in bunk beds? We recommend the top bunk is suitable for 6 years and above, while the bottom bunk can be used by children 4 years and above. This is to minimise the risk of injury, as your child should be able to confidently climb up and down the ladder themselves. They should also be old enough not to climb or jump off the top bunk without supervision.

What age are mid sleeper beds suitable for?

Mid sleeper beds are perfect for making the most of small spaces, but what age are mid sleeper beds suitable for? We recommend only children 6 years and above use a mid sleeper bed to ensure they are as safe as possible. As they are raised from the floor, your child needs to be able to use the ladder by themselves and be trusted not to jump off the top bunk or climb over the sides. As mid sleeper beds use either a UK or Euro single mattress, they can grow with your child for many years to come.
