Start with the cot. It's the most important piece of nursery furniture and the one your baby will spend the most time in. A cot bed that converts to a toddler bed gives you more years of use than a standard cot, and means you're not buying twice. Look for adjustable mattress heights, a higher position for newborns makes lifting easier on your back; lower it as your baby learns to sit and stand.
Add a changing area. A dedicated changing unit keeps everything in one place and at the right height to avoid back strain. Some designs incorporate drawer storage beneath, which makes excellent use of the space and reduces clutter elsewhere in the room. An open shelf above for nappies, wipes, and essentials is genuinely useful in the early months.
Storage is the third priority. Babies come with a surprising amount of kit, clothes, blankets, muslins, toys, and books all accumulate quickly. A small wardrobe or chest of drawers handles clothing; a low bookcase or open shelving keeps books and soft toys accessible as they grow.
What you probably don't need straight away: a nursing chair is lovely but not essential; a wardrobe is useful, but a chest of drawers often covers the early years; a separate toy box can wait until there are enough toys to justify one.
All GLTC nursery furniture is rigorously safety tested, finished in non-toxic paints and lacquers, and designed to grow with your child from newborn through to the toddler years.
