One of the cutest trends in interiors right now is the humble pom pom. We've spotted them on cushions, blankets, duvet covers, and we've even popped them on our children's blackout curtains. They add such a sweet touch.
On a side note, have you taken a look at our curtain range recently? With the lighter nights, it could be a good time to pick up a pair.
But back to pom poms. We can see why they're loved. They're woolly balls of colour that add a sense of fun to the home. And they're so easy to make too. So much so that we decided to customise our popular rope storage baskets with them.
What do you think?
It's a great way of embracing a room's colour scheme. If you change your decor, simply make new pom poms to match the new theme.
Fancy having a go yourself?
Here's our very simple tutorial.
STEP ONE
Choose your storage basket and the wool that you'd like to make your pom poms with. In this example, we used an ivory rope storage basket and dark grey and red wool. We made the pom poms with these simple pom pom makers.
STEP TWO
Make your pom pom and when tying the final length of wool around it to secure it, don't trim the ends. You'll need them to be approximately 20 cm long to make the next part a little easier.
STEP THREE
Thread one of the ends through a needle, position the pom pom on the basket, and then push the needle through the closest gap in the rope.
STEP FOUR
Do the same with the remaining end of wool.
STEP FIVE
Tie the two ends in a knot on the inside of the basket and then snip the excess wool for a neat and tidy finish.
STEP SIX
Stand back and admire your handiwork and repeat with as many pom poms as it takes to perfectly adorn your basket.
Play around with colours, sizes and patterns to get the perfect look. And don't forget to share your finished baskets on Instagram using the #mygltc hashtag. You could be in with the chance of winning £100 to spend at Great Little Trading Co.
