MAKE YOUR OWN GREAT LITTLE CHRISTMAS POST BOX

Nov 7, 2022 Rachel Southern
Santa's post box

It's the time of year where our recycling bags become just that little bit plumper than normal. Shopping for Christmas presents is wonderful but tends to result in one or two more cardboard boxes hanging around our homes than we would like. So why not use them in your crafting? We have a lovely, little idea for you today made from the box that our Emily Doll's Pram comes in - a very festive Christmas post box! It's mostly made out of supplies that you will likely already have in your home. Your little one can write and post their Christmas wish list, followed by hours of role play fun.

What you will need:

  • Cardboard box
  • Red paint
  • Black paint
  • A paintbrush
  • A craft knife
  • Cotton wool
  • Glue or a glue gun
  • Printer (or paper and a fine, black pen)
  • Optional: stencils and white paint/pen

Let's get started!

Firstly, choose which is going to be the front of your post box and draw on a small rectangle to post the letters into and a larger rectangle to make a door.

Then, using your craft knife, cut out the small rectangle and only three sides of the larger rectangle leaving one of the tall sides uncut. Bend the door open along the uncut side.

Time to paint! Little ones will love helping with this step. We used two coats of paint to make it look extra glossy and rich.

If you have another spare piece of cardboard, make a lip for the top of the post box by cutting out a long, thin rectangle and two triangles. Paint the pieces first before sticking them to the box with the hot glue gun.

Next up, either print a ‘Santa’s Post Box’ label or, if you prefer, you could easily write this on with a black pen. We then used some offcuts, cut no bigger than 1 cm wide, and glued them around the post box sign to add some texture.

With the black paint, paint a line around the bottom of the box approximately 1.5 inches wide and, using the glue gun, stick on the cotton wool as snow above the black line and on top of the lip to post the letter.
