The play shop gets a Wimbledon-themed makeover

Play shop and theatre

Hooray for July! We've got warmer weather, lots of sports on TV, and it's strawberry picking season. So what better way to celebrate all three than by taking the Sixpence play shop outdoors and dressing it up as a one-stop Wimbledon shop selling strawberries and cream?

Andy Murray might not be playing in the men's singles this year, but for children looking for a new sporting role model, how about fifteen year old Cori Gauff who triumphed over Venus Williams in the first round on Monday? Definitely a sporting star in the making and someone to tempt your children out on to the local courts. The LTA has a great mini tennis programme if it's something that your little ones are interested in.

But back to the play shop makeover, what do you think?

Did you know that an average of 166,055 portions of strawberries and cream are sold each year at Wimbledon? That's possibly a few more than you want to stock in your play shop but why not head to your local farm and pick enough for a large bowl? What could be nicer than selling freshly picked strawberries to your customers?

What else to sell?

How about a large jug of squash or water with a squeeze of lemon juice?

And don't forget tennis balls and sweat bands. Over 16,000 sweatbands were sold at Wimbledon last year so they're definitely something that you want to stock.

Spare rackets and a couple of championship towels could come in handy, too. Just in case any players have forgotten their's. And a sun hat to two to provide extra sun protection. Those tennis matches can go on for quite some time.
