DIY TRAFFIC SIGNS - EASY CRAFTS FOR KIDS

Jan 14, 2019 Rachel Southern

Get Crafty: Bringing The On The Road Rug To Life

A gorgeous children's rug that also doubles up as a play mat; it's no wonder the On The Road rug continues to be one of GLTC's most popular designs. It's beautifully made from thick, soft wool to create a cosy play area; and the tasteful, grey base plays host to roads, vehicles and traffic lights for transport themed play. It really is every little car fan's dream.

While toy cars can be found in most homes, 3D road signs and trees are not quite as easy to come by. However, they can be quickly and simply made from items you may already have lying around your house or garden (if not, your local craft shop will definitely be able to help you out).

DIY MINI ROAD SIGNS TUTORIAL

If you fancy bring the On The Road rug to life - or even making road signs and trees to play with on any of GLTC's children's rugs - here's what you'll need:

  • road signs and trees template used in the pairs and bunting post (print two copies of each template)
  • scissors
  • circular bark pieces (approximately 3cm diameter and 0.5cm deep)
  • stick pieces (approximately 1cm diameter and 5cm high)
  • quick drying glue

STEP 1: Take the templates and cut just the top of the road signs out and the entirety of the trees - but don't throw away the vehicles, they're great for collages!

STEP 2: Glue the stick pieces upright in the centre of the circular bark pieces.

STEP 3: Glue the road signs to the top part of the stick pieces. You can choose to place just one on one side, but we think a second on the opposite side makes the signs look even better.

STEP 4: Glue the trees to the very bottom of the stick pieces and upwards. Again, you can choose to place just one on one side, but they look more effective if you place a second cut out on the opposite side.

STEP 5: Leave the glue to harden and then dot them around the On The Road rug ready to be played with.
