Behind The Scenes: The Spring Summer 2019 Photo Shoot

Lighter nights, daffodil shoots poking through the soil and the reappearance of the sun in the sky. It can only mean one thing, right? Yes, it's almost time for the brand new Great Little Trading Co. Spring Summer 2019 catalogue to make its way through your letterbox. 

Over the past couple of weeks, new products have been trickling on to the website, soon to be followed by many more. More storage solutions, more fantastic pieces of furniture, and more soft furnishings and finishing touches. You're going to be spoilt for choice.

But before we reveal all to you, do you fancy a quick look behind the scenes of the photo shoot? Our shoots take place a few months in advance of the catalogue being printed, so even though the photos have a beautiful spring feel to them, they were actually taken in the autumn.

SEEING RAINBOW STARS

Here's a behind the scenes shot that's packed with new products - the rainbow star rug, the colourful storage baskets and our brand new play/art table. They couldn't be more perfect for a colour-loving family, especially in a shared space like a family living room where children need their own little corner for their toys and arts and crafts.

In the photo on the left, you can see that we use real, actual homes for the majority of our shoots. We think it helps our customers to visualise how the products would look and feel in their own homes.

Sofas are pushed back against walls, children's drawings are pinned up, and finishing touches are added to shelves and mantlepieces. We then call in our amazing models to walk around the room and play with the toys or see what's hidden in storage baskets.  

PRACTICAL FOR PLANTS, PUZZLES AND BOOKS

Taking photographs of children means getting down on their level and seeing the world through their eyes. Yes, that sometimes means that you'll find our photographer lying on the floor. How else can he capture those cute moments like little fingers pointing to the pages in the colourful picture books?

The book and toy organiser in the photo is the latest addition to the Potter range. It's such a practical piece of furniture. As well as lots of room for books and toys (and a plant - have a look at the new mini rope storage baskets, they're a perfect size for a plant pot), the shelf also offers ample space for puzzles and games.  

AUTHENTIC PAW PRINTS

If you've been a fan of GLTC for a while, you'll know that we always manage to sneak a furry friend or two in to our photographs. And nothing says 'family home' more than muddy foot and paw prints on the hallway floor. You can just about see that they made their way in to the finished image, too. THE ANIMALS CAME IN TWO BY TWO

While we set up full rooms, we're always looking for those detailed, close up shots, too. In the behind the scenes photo on the left, the gorgeous Noah's Ark added the perfect pop of colour to this woodland-themed child's room. You can picture a little boy or girl slowly moving the ark and the animals in to the teepee. But the bright wooden creatures make a perfect picture all by themselves and really show off the quality of the natural wool grey star rug.

A TRIP TO THE ICE CREAM SHOP

The children that we use for our photo shoots are both extremely professional and thoroughly adorable. Of course, we try to make things quick and easy for them because no child has an unlimited attention span. We set the scene - perhaps a trip to an ice cream shop with a cuddly sheep - and with a tiny amount of direction, capture the perfect picture in minutes. We hope you love them as much as we do when you see the final versions in the new catalogue.
