I was so disappointed with my purchase. GLTC had come so highly recommended. A family member has used this range to great effect and satisfaction, making my niece's room look wonderful. However, my experience has been vastly different.
I purchased this, the double drawer unit and the toy box. The assembly instructions were straightforward and after several hours ( I have a 7 month old so it was difficult to get any continuous time to build the units) my units were assembled. However they SMELT TOXIC! I initially thought that this smell was due to the packaging, but it did not dissipate. The smell was incredibly strong; so strong that it gave me a headache and I had to remove them from my daughter's room. I telephoned GLTC and was told that they were aware of the problem and it was the paint! I was told that the smell should dissipate after a few days if I opened the windows to 'air ' them. I pointed out that it had been freezing cold so having the windows open was not an option with a baby in the house. Consequently I spent 5 days ferrying the units to and fro from the garden in between the rain showers in a desperate bid to get rid of the smell.
It has been a week and despite having washed the units down and them having almost becoming a garden feature, they still smell. GLTC have suggested this was rare occurrence with some batches- all three units arrived separately and all three smelt- so either I was unlucky or it's not such a rare occurrence. GLTC did offer to replace the units, but had no viable suggestions other than 'we are sorry' in respect of the additional hours it would take to construct the new units or the cost and inconvenience associated with the whole fiasco.
I wanted to build up this range in my daughter's bedroom but am incredibly put off by this experience.
In a nutshell- if you order this range be prepared for the chance you will have to air it out for a least a week before its remotely usable in a child's room!
